Chief consultant

A UK native who has lived in Vietnam since 2014, Ryan Thomas is the chief consultant and founder of Beable.

He has 20 years experience in corporate, digital and creative communication as a writer, strategist and consultant in Europe and Asia.

Beyond Beable, he is a fan of the Wales national football team, creative writing, and learning Vietnamese along with his 2-year old son.

What does ‘Beable’ mean?

“It’s originally from quantum mechanics, a field which mystifies and fascinates me

This theory deals with parts of the universe that are very small. It says events and objects at that scale (like waves of light) only happen as probabilities. It also suggests that waves of light only become part of ‘our’ universe (where things happen as ’cause and effect) when they are observed or measured.

A man named John Stewart Bell didn’t feel satisfied at this. In 1975, wrote a paper arguing these objects and events happen whether or not they are observed. This meant the term ‘observable’ would have to be replaced, so he invented a new word: beable.

Beable is pronounced in three syllables (and rhymes with breathable, not feeble). Beable defines what is in existence, whether or not we can are able to see it.”
